If you have received an Email with P87 Data from TMC, you are eligible to claim tax relief on the difference between what you have already received as reimbursement for your business miles and the maximum amount advised by HMRC.


If your company uses TMC to collate this data, you will only receive it if you are driving your own vehicle and have not been reimbursed the maximum amount of 45 pence for the first 10,000 miles and 25 pence thereafter. We do not collate this for company car drivers.

You will be required to fill out a form on the HMRC Website using the information supplied to you by TMC. HMRC might request further evidence beyond the information you have provided, for example, a report showing all trips. You can get this report from the Reporting Suite on your TMC account. Go to the left-hand side of your account and in the grey box you will find Reporting Suite.


In the Reporting Suite you will have the choice to run a Trip Details Report. To do this, you can select the dates from the previous tax year that you require the report to cover e.g. 01.04.2024 – 31.03.2025


The system will then produce a report with all your trips that you can submit to HMRC.

If you are having issues with what HMRC will accept as extra evidence, we suggest speaking to HMRC directly as they will be able to advise what formats/information they will accept.



The numbers next to the Figures on your P87 Email are equivalent to the numbers on the form you need to fill out. If there is no number next to a figure, then you leave the box blank.

You can backdate a P87 claim for the last four tax years.

Any claims over £2500 would require you to fill out a self-assessment.

 

P87 FAQ’s


Can TMC supply me with P87 from previous Tax years?


Yes, if your company used TMC to produce these and you have checked your inbox for previous Emails; the data will be sent to you in an Excel format, containing the box numbers on the P87 form and the relevant figures from your TMC account.

 

Can TMC fill out my P87 form for me?


No TMC cannot complete your P87, this needs to be completed by yourself and sent to HMRC.

 

Do I send the completed form to TMC?


 No, once you have completed the P87 form, you send this on to HMRC either digitally or via the postal service. 


I have not received my P87 data.


If you have not received any P87 data, please check that your account on TMC shows that you are using your own vehicle. If you are showing as using a Company vehicle incorrectly, please speak to your company to get this changed. We cannot populate the P87 data for any tax years before this change.  Although the tax year runs April-April, P87 data can take some time to come through. Please allow up to July for this to come through. Sometimes the email can go to your Junk mail so please check this first before requesting the data.
